KNITTED: : Two interesting, very vintage, bedtime boudoir garments to knit from this 1950s Sirdar pattern with its wonderful retro styling . Both are lightweight but cosy confections of garments; and in modern terms they would both be called pretty little capelets. However they are described as a “shoulder shawl” and a “cape”.
Confusingly, “model A”, in yellow, is actually the “cape”, fastened low on the bust line with a button; and “model B”, in white, is “the shawl”-although it is actually much closer to a cape in style, with a high, buttoned neck band.
Both are knitted in pretty lace stitch patterns; A is made in DK ( light worsted) B is in 3ply (closer to modern 4ply or baby knit / sportweight).
