CROCHET: A lovely and unusual pattern for two waistcoats or vests. One long and simple; the other is a really pretty reversible top, or a waistcoat if worn with the buttons to the front. The vest top can be buttoned at the front or back as shown in the pictures. This is a good basic shape; especially with the button opening option, which is difficult to find, but I can also see it would easily adapt to make an unbuttoned tank top version. The top would be very easy to make as a solid fabric instead of the open “granny stitch” mesh, if you wanted to make this in regular yarn for daywear.
A lovely detail on the top is the band of stripes and chevron patterning at the hem. They give a slight nod to a 1930s art deco influence (which was popular fashion reference in the seventies). This part is left without buttons too-emphasizing it even more.
A perfect pattern for making something for festivals, parties and generally for summertime, especially if made in a cotton yarn.
