KNITTING: A toy knitting pattern to make some characterful farmyard favourites. They are easy to knit as a whole farm playset; or any of them alone would make cute little gifts for Spring and Easter time. There is a splendid cockerel, a chick, duck and duckling and a lamb to make.
These are rather exuberant, floppy shapes and were originally made quite large, knitted on jumbo needles, as you can see by the size and tension gauge. Please note the the legs and beaks etc are cut from felt to a scaleable template (included).
You can make them this large - but they can be made in ordinary DK (light worsted) weight yarn. However you would need to rescale the charted pieces accordingly and probably you will not need any foam etc. for the legs. You could knit “i-cords”, or maybe slightly fatter knitted “tubes”, for these if using finer yarn. You could also knit the feet and comb shapes if you are willing to make up variations to a pattern; a "short row" technique would work well.
The cockerel can also be adapted to create a nice big hen too!
