KNITTING: The “bachelor” tea cosy is the traditional (and ubiquitous) fluted tea cosy which has really excellent insulating properties.
The second knitted cosy is a doll* topped one-but very specifically made as a “Dutch doll” (all things “Dutch” were very popular then). Of course the actual body of the cosy is still a nice one even without the doll and apron; big moss (seed) stitch bow trim would look nice on top instead.
CROCHET: The “Lady Rose” crinoline doll* style is crocheted in a warm loop stitch. The doll effect is cute and kitsch but the cosy can be easily adapted to one without the doll body.
*Vintage china dolls for use as tea cosy tops can still be found -but you can upcycle an unwanted teen doll or make one from modelling clay yourself )
